Iitti, Kouvola’s neighbouring municipality, nestles between the Kymi River and many lakes in the verdant valley of Kymenlaakso. Northern Iitti is dominated by the spectacular lake views, hills and forests, while southern Iitti is shaped by broad, open fields and clay rivers.
- The main centre is Kausala, between Highway 12 and the Helsinki – St Petersburg railway.
- There’s so much to see and do in summer in Iiitti. Can you fit it all in? Iitti Music Festival, open-air theatre performances, fishing and nature trips, and many sports events are already Iitti trademarks. Kausala’s renowned horse racing tradition is upheld on the Ravilinna track at the Whitsun Races. Businesses in the horse-riding community organise camps and riding events for enthusiasts and visitors. Winter delights include ice fishing, Christmas markets, sporting events, skiing and horse and cart rides – according to the weather and snow conditions.
- The 130-year-old market tradition continues with brisk trade at the market in Kausala, on the first Tuesday of the month and on summer Saturdays.
