The Old Store – Bar & Shop

In the last few years the Old Shop, formerly Heinonen & Laurikainen’s business building in Kuusankoski, Kouvola, has been given a new lease of life. This property is a regional heritage site, built in 1925, and changed hands in early 2016. The new owners have given the old house a major refurbishment, restoring the façade in its original colours. 
The interior has been renovated too, respecting the character of the building.

The Old Shop is home to the first microbrewery in Kouvola, established in 2018, called Panimo Hoppa. The brewery is in the outbuilding, which in the 1920s was the garage for the shop’s first ever vehicle, a Model TT Ford, which was called a Hoppa.
This car and the hops used to brew the beer gave the brewery its name. Hoppa brewery has one aim: to manufacture easily accessible and high-quality artisan beers. The passion for beer and the desire to develop the local beer culture are driven Hoppa forward.

In early summer 2019, the nostalgic Old Brewery Bar & Shop was opened in the main building. You can taste Hoppa products in the bar or purchase them to take away. Besides our own beers and other beverages, the Old Shop serves a vast collection of different styles of drinks from coffee to grappa.
