The centre of Kouvola
Many people see the centre of Kouvola from the window of a train. From there you can’t quite see our City Hall, which has been voted the most beautiful city hall in the country. The Pohjola House is very different. It is so large and ugly that many have started to consider it quite handsome. In the centre you can find the pedestrian street with cafés and shops. In the cafés you can taste Kouvola’s own coffee and the famous Kouvola licorice. The market place is full of vendors with local produce.

The church Pyhän Ristin kirkko (Holy Cross church) was completed in 1915 as a Russian military church. The church once served as Kouvola's Lutheran congregation's main church until it was handed over to the orthodox parish of Hamina and converted into an orthodox church.

The construction of Kouvola's Lutheran Central Church was completed in 1977 and the church was inaugurated on April 2nd 1978. Church was designed in the Art Nouveau style, by architects Jakko ja Kaarina Laapotti.
